The Ministry

PASTOR Bessie Almendares
Agua de Vida

Bessie Almendares is a single mother and an annointed pastor of Agua de Vida, the mission church begun by International Mission Connection. Pastor Bessie has been involved from the project's beginning and has contributed her own labor as well as her love to the making of the mission. Bessie is a powerful student of the Word and, though she has not had formal education, continues to exhibit a special gift for ministering to the needy in her midst and mentoring the young people in her village. Pastor Bessie, having experienced first-hand the abandonment of herself and her small children by her husband, is a shining light in a village culture where many of the women are forced to shoulder the burdens of trying to eek out sustenance for their children
without men in their lives.

Bessie chooses not to focus on what she does not have and, instead, keeps her focus on God's blessings. Bessie Almendares has proven to be a responsible leader and a truly unique woman who touches the hearts of young people and other young mothers who are bound together with Hope for a future for themselves and their children. Bessie's strength of character and her deep and abiding faith is an inspiration to the village.

International Mission Connection Founder

Donna Sloan Beverly and her husband, Jim Beverly

Donna and Jim Beverly volunteer their time and efforts to mentoring the projects of International Mission Connection and to discipling the new church leaders and youth who are working fervently to be agents of change in their culture. The Beverlys travel to Honduras regularly to minister and to join the children for projects. Since IMC is committed to fostering leadership skills and independence among the nationals so that they can truly expand the vision of IMC without American control, there are no resident American missionaries. Although to the villagers, the Beverlys are "the missionaries", Donna and Jim are just as happy with the label of "Abuela" and "Abuelo". The Beverlys feel blessed and privileged to be to support and partner with the people of Honduras and to celebrate the good things that the Lord has done already through the lives of the young people who have found refuge and inspiration in the mission.
